2 June 2016 - 5 June 2016
In the early summer – since the 3-rd till the 5-th of June in the town of Vyksa in the Nizhny Novgorod region will be held the sixth festival "Art-Ovrag", which is organized by United metallurgical company and the charity Foundation "OMK-Participation" supported by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation. In 2016, for the meeting organizers chose the theme "Create your city", which means that participants in all events of the festival and between festival programmes such will be local residents, who year after year are showing more initiative, seeking to make their city more comfortable and beautiful.
In anticipation of "Art-Ovrag 2016" has already been selected two courtyards, which by summer will be transformed by the joint efforts of the residents of Vyksa and Moscow architects, in charge of the project "Art-House" held in the framework of the festival. "We get used to what surrounds us, and, as it happens, but in small towns the development of cultural initiatives through them, – says the curator of the festival, partner of the architectural Bureau Wowhaus Oleg Shapiro. – Our festival should inspire the citizens to the creation of something new and interesting. The more you recognize and see the greater scale that you can cover".
In five years, "Art-Ovrag" had made the town of Vyksa, the epicenter of the contemporary art festival over the years was visited by over 70 thousand visitors who wanted to see the unique art objects and performances, participate in different workshops and to join the street sports. This is not surprising – where else can you see how ordinary people along with famous artists, dancers, musicians and architects, which each year attracts more and more, create something new, unusual and large-scale. It should say at least that since 2011, Vyksa appeared more than 80 art objects created during the festival and formed themselves around the new urban tradition.
Today, Vyksa, which arose more than two hundred and fifty years ago around the steel plant, is the most prominent representative of dynamically developing towns. That is why the organizers seek to ensure that the citizens themselves were inspired by the transformation of their city, which can truly be proud of. "People in Vyksa with respect for cultural traditions and open to the new, but the province stays away from the cultural life. We decided to fix it, at least on the scale of one city, – says the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Charity Fund "OMK-Participation" Irina Sedykh. We strive to Vyksa appeared on the cultural map of the world, and already today it is known not only as a city of metallurgists, but also as a city where its inhabitants and artists create a new space for creativity and creation".
