V. Korbakov – is the most prominent representative of the fine arts of the Vologda region of the XX century. In period of his establishment he was close to painting of "severe style" – 1960s. In 1970 – 1980 was formed individual creative style of the artist, based on expressive – romantic vision of the world in technology of textured multilayer painting. In 1990 master combined plain-air landscape painting, work on the plot – thematic, associative and decorative compositions with the development of the traditions of classical painting. The leading place in the works of Korbakov takes sincere, lyrical – romantic or anxiety – dramatic experience of problems, fates and characters of the modern world. He is faithful to centuries-old traditions of Russian artistic culture.
B. Korbakov has always been a bold innovator, daring and passionate seeker of new ways to upgrade the artistic language of contemporary art. In different years he expressed typical for the era interests yet of trends of impressionism, acute decorative expressiveness of early Russian avant-garde, social – psychological sharpness of themes and images of paintings of the new reading of world classics. In these ways of the constant creative development B. Korbakov always retains the main thing in himself: emotionally – lyrical experience of the facts of life and art, the solution to all creative problems through colouring, plastic and texture of painting, openness of himself and his art to people.
Korbakov worked in almost all genres of painting, based primarily out of a desire to express the excitement of the soul and convey bright, unusual visual impressions. He created a large portrait gallery of Vologda – people of different ages, professions and characters. The artist writes specifically – story, historical and conditionally – associative paintings and composition. His still lives are acute decorative, festive, fancy. Always starting from a specific nature, Korbakov transforms it, filling with emotional and personal wealth of picturesque nuances.
All the years of his creative work, Vladimir Korbakov turned to landscape painting. He created a series of open-air etude works and finished landscape compositions "My Vologda", "North Magnitka", "On the road of Lomonosov", "Bow to the native land", "On ancient city of Vologda region" in which the vigilance of full-scale vision of this or that motif is combined with the rapid artistic temperament of the artist and high professionalism of the picturesque painting. In his landscapes he sought to express the "spirit of place" – nice cosiness of streets and courtyards of old Vologda, spaciousness and power of rivers, lakes and roads of the Russian North, severe grandeur of architectural monuments.
All life of V. Korbakov was associated with the Vologda land. More than half a century of work performed about 2,000 paintings and drawings. His works are in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, at the Museum of the landscape in Ples on the Volga and in many cities of Russia (Tver, Petrozavodsk, Tyumen, and Syktyvkar). The biggest collection is stored in the Vologda Regional Art Gallery.
